Economic Development
OVK's Community Economic Development Specialist - Loretta Gregory
I work with the Organized Village of Kake and the Sustainable Southeast Partnership (SSP) and collaborate with other organizations throughout our community and region. The goal is to empower our community and other Southeast Alaska communities to develop cultural, ecological and economic prosperity, sustainability and resilience. Through this partnership we believe we can have a great impact on the complex challenges associated with community sustainability.
The partnership includes tribal governments, conservation entities, NGOs and native corporation economic development groups and city governments. These partnerships bring experience, assets and resources to the table and also serve to employ local SSP workers.
I believe it is important that we develop local capacity for long-term sustainability in a variety of areas including food, energy, natural resources and economic development. Projects focusing in these areas will provide employment and increase our local leadership and entrepreneurial capacity. Technical support and social networking with other communities is vital to all of us working together to better our communities.
